In Mals im Vinschgau steht seit Ende der 1960er eine Kaserne der Finanzpolizei. Zwar mitten im Dorf, war sie doch Zeit ihrer Nutzung mehr oder weniger abgeschottet und seit 2005 zudem leerstehend. Doch nun wurden die Tore weit aufgerissen und daraus ein gemeinschaftlicher, willkommen heisender Ort gestaltet: das FinKa Hostel, das erste seiner Art in Südtirol.
Caro diario, sono arrivato sano e salvo nelle Colonie del Nord! Qui e diverso da casa, ogni strada e in salita in entrambe le direzioni e il vento mi soffia via i denti dalla faccia e la pieta dal cuore. Ma la gente e molto simpatica; non parlano la nostra lingua (e la loro sono solo rumori divertenti) ma il cibo e delizioso, e gli piace bere e cantare, cosa si puo volere di piu? E dopo un buon bicchiere o tre, la comunicazione diventa facile!
Before and after
Some spaces in the FinKa, even if renovated, have not moved much from their original place. The „Spaccio“ already existed back then (even if only as a small shop) and the second floor was already full of bedrooms. Some things have changed a lot, though: In today‘s entrance area stood a car repair shop, in place of today‘s rooftop suites with view on the Ortles there was an archive – whose tiles have found a new home in the foyer ……
